Meet the Artist
Meikel S Church
Meikel S Church is a North Little Rock, Arkansas based collage/mixed-media artist who challenges concepts of perception through his artwork. Meikel started creating collage in 2013 and quickly became addicted to the absurdity of taking found images, mostly from old books and magazines, and re-thinking the pre-existing image in another context. I think a lot about the fact that since a lot of my life has consisted of painful, sometimes dark bouts with depression and anxiety that i feel driven to create alternate realities. I've sought refuge in art since i was a kid. Art being music, culture, travel, anything beyond the constraints of the south and everything associated with being a gay man growing up and trying to navigate through what i considered shark infested waters. When i first started creating collage I would say that I sought refuge in the images, but now it’s a deeper connection to the very paper an image is printed on.
